Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huanyu “Larry” Cheng of Penn State Univ. visited DRMIS at the Department of Industrial Engineering

On January 4th, 2024, the Disaster and Risk Management Information Systems (DRMIS) Research Unit, Department of Industrial Engineering, Chulalongkorn University welcomed Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huanyu “Larry” Cheng of The Pennsylvania State University, USA. Prof. Cheng is the James L. Henderson, Jr. Memorial Associate Professor of Engineering Science and Mechanics at Pennsylvania State University. He has been affiliated with the Penn State Institutes of Energy and the Environment, the Materials Research Institute (MRI), the Institute for Computational and Data Sciences (ICDS), the Engineering, Energy, & Environmental Institute (E3I), the Sustainability Institute, and varying centers at Penn State.

Assoc. Prof. Natt Leelawat, D.Eng. (Associate Professor of the Department of Industrial Engineering and the Head of DRMIS Research Unit), Dr. Jing Tang (Lecturer of the International School of Engineering, Chula Engineering, and a member of DRMIS Research Unit), and the graduate students of welcomed Assoc. Prof. Cheng, and Dr. Jiaqian Qin of the Metallurgy and Materials Science Research Institute (MMRI) of Chulalongkorn University. The DRMIS members then presented an introduction to the Faculty of Engineering, and the DRMIS Research Unit works to them. Afterward, they discussed several topics such as the students’ academic experience in each university, the life and prospects of graduate students in the U.S., the differences with Thailand, research experience for students, etc. Assoc. Prof. Cheng also talked briefly about his research. This visit is closed with a remark on a potential collaboration in research works between Penn State University and the DRMIS Research Unit in the future.
